The following points are designed to help you reflect on the quality and depth of your relationship. The more questions you can answer “yes” to, the healthier your relationship is.

Do you trust each other completely?

Are you always completely honest with each other?

Do you talk openly and comfortably about everything?

Can you really “be yourself” in your relationship (i.e. you don’t have to put on an act to please)?

Have you known each other long enough to see how you respond individually and together when things are tough and when you disagree?

Are your lives and relationship free of drug/alcohol abuse and pornographic material?

Are you in this relationship more because you love this person than because you don’t like being alone? (Not liking being alone is fine, but which motivates you more?)

Do you love this person more than the idea of being in love? (Again, loving the idea of being in love is fine, but what’s your focus?)

Do you both know clearly what your moral values are and can say you never have to compromise them?

Do you talk about your long-term vision for your life, family and work in detail?

Do you want this person to be the mother/father of your children?

Do you both agree marriage is forever?

Can you say this relationship is making you a better, happier and more fulfilled person? Would your family and friends agree?

If not married, are you saving sex until marriage?
